Description

This Big Apple Fritters recipe features crispy fried dough with tender apple chunks and a sweet vanilla glaze. Perfect for breakfast or dessert, these apple fritters are easy to make, loaded with cinnamon flavor, and sure to impress at brunch. Ideal for fall baking or anytime you’re craving a comforting, homemade treat.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

¼ cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

⅔ cup milk

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups diced apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon melted butter

Oil for frying

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

1. Peel and dice the apples. Toss them in lemon juice to prevent browning.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.

4. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.

5. Gently fold in the diced apples and let the batter sit for 5 minutes.

6. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F.

7. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil. Fry for 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown.

8. Remove fritters and place them on a paper towel-lined plate.

9. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make the glaze.

10. Dip or drizzle glaze over warm fritters. Let it set slightly before serving.

Notes

This batter should not be overmixed—lumps are okay.

Don’t overcrowd the oil when frying to maintain even temperature.

For thicker glaze, reduce the milk slightly or sift the powdered sugar.
