Description

This rich and creamy brown butter cake frosting is made with browned unsalted butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla for a deeply nutty, caramel-like flavor. It’s the perfect frosting for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more. Ideal for those looking for a unique and flavorful twist on traditional buttercream.

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

3 cups powdered sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 to 4 tablespoons milk or cream

1 pinch salt

Instructions

1. Place unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat and stir as it melts, foams, and begins to brown. Once golden and nutty in aroma, remove from heat and let cool completely.

2. Add the cooled browned butter to a mixing bowl. Add powdered sugar and beat until thick and creamy.

3. Add vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon milk or cream. Beat until smooth and fluffy, adding more milk if needed.

4. Taste and adjust with a pinch of salt. Beat again until frosting is silky and ready to use.

Notes

Use unsalted butter for better control of flavor.

Let browned butter cool fully before mixing or it will melt the sugar.

For richer frosting, use cream instead of milk.
