Description

Chocolate Sugar Cookie Bars are soft, chewy, and topped with rich chocolate frosting, making them the perfect easy dessert bar for parties, holidays, bake sales, and chocolate lovers who want a simple homemade treat.

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 tablespoons milk

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 to 4 tablespoons heavy cream or milk

2 tablespoons chocolate sprinkles

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

4. Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract and milk.

5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until a soft dough forms.

6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan.

7. Bake for 16 to 20 minutes, or until the center is set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.

8. Let the bars cool completely in the pan.

9. For the frosting, beat the softened butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and heavy cream or milk until smooth and spreadable.

10. Spread the frosting over the cooled bars.

11. Top with chocolate sprinkles, slice into bars, and serve.

Notes

For the softest texture, do not overbake the bars. Pull them from the oven as soon as the center is set.

Let the bars cool fully before frosting so the topping stays smooth and does not melt into the base.

For neater slices, chill the frosted bars for 20 to 30 minutes before cutting.
