Ingredients
400 g extra-firm tofu
3 tbsp cornstarch
0.5 tsp salt
0.25 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp neutral oil (for frying)
3 cloves garlic, minced
3 tbsp soy sauce
2.5 tbsp honey
1 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tbsp water
1 tsp cornstarch (for slurry)
1 tbsp water (for slurry)
Instructions
1. Press the tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove moisture, then cut into bite-sized cubes.
2. In a mixing bowl, season tofu with salt and pepper, then toss with cornstarch until fully coated.
3. Heat oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Fry tofu in a single layer, turning to crisp all sides. Remove and set aside.
4. In the same pan, sauté minced garlic until fragrant.
5. Add soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and 2 tbsp water. Stir and simmer gently.
6. Mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Add to the sauce, stirring until thickened and glossy.
7. Return tofu to the pan and toss well to coat evenly with the sauce.
8. Serve hot with rice, noodles, or steamed veggies. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
Pressing the tofu is essential for crispy texture.
You can replace honey with maple syrup for a vegan option.
Reheat leftovers in an air fryer or skillet to bring back crispiness.
