1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 cup milk
1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee
Instructions
1. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until it foams and brown bits appear. It should smell nutty and caramelized. Remove from heat.
2. Add the milk and maple syrup to the saucepan with the browned butter. Warm over medium heat, whisking gently, until hot and steamy (do not boil).
3. Stir in the vanilla extract and brewed espresso. Whisk until smooth and fully combined.
4. Froth the mixture with a milk frother or whisk vigorously by hand for light foam.
5. Pour into a mug and enjoy immediately. Garnish with cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
