Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups chocolate chips or chunks
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, melt the butter and let it cool slightly. Stir in the brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth.
3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in the vanilla extract.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until fully combined.
6. Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks, saving a handful to press on top.
7. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan and press the reserved chocolate chips on top.
8. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the top is golden and the center is just slightly underdone.
9. Let the bars cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes before removing and slicing.
Notes
Use parchment paper with overhang for easy removal.
For extra gooey centers, slightly underbake by 1–2 minutes.
Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat for 10 seconds to restore gooeyness.
