Ingredients
12 ounces egg noodles
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
1 cup sour cream
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until softened and fragrant.
4. Stir in the tomato sauce and cream of mushroom soup. Let simmer for 3 to 5 minutes.
5. Remove from heat and stir in the sour cream. Season with salt and pepper.
6. While sauce simmers, boil egg noodles in salted water according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
7. In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the noodles, half of the meat sauce, and half of the cheese. Repeat layers.
8. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
This casserole freezes beautifully—make a double batch and freeze one for later.
Feel free to substitute penne or rotini if you don’t have egg noodles.
