Description
These homemade glazed orange rolls are soft, fluffy, and packed with fresh citrus flavor from real orange zest and juice. A perfect alternative to cinnamon rolls, these orange rolls feature a tender dough, a sweet orange-sugar filling, and a bright vanilla-orange glaze. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.
Ingredients
1 cup whole milk
2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
⅓ cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsalted butter, melted and divided
2 large eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons orange zest
⅓ cup orange juice, divided
¾ cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Warm the milk until just warm to the touch.
2. In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, yeast, ¼ cup melted butter, and eggs. Mix until smooth.
3. Add flour and salt gradually and knead for 6-8 minutes until elastic and smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
4. Prepare the filling by mixing ¼ cup softened butter, orange zest, ¼ cup granulated sugar, and 1 tablespoon orange juice.
5. Roll out the dough to a 16×12-inch rectangle. Spread filling evenly across the dough.
6. Roll the dough into a log and slice into 12 rolls.
7. Place rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30-40 minutes until puffy.
8. Bake at 350°F for 22-25 minutes until golden.
9. Make glaze by whisking powdered sugar, remaining orange juice, zest, and vanilla extract.
10. Drizzle glaze over warm rolls and serve.
Notes
These rolls rise best in a warm, draft-free environment.
Use fresh orange juice and zest for the most vibrant flavor.
You can freeze baked rolls without glaze and frost after reheating.
