Ingredients
2 cups mashed potatoes
1 large egg
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon oil (for frying)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
Instructions
1. Peel and chop the potatoes, boil in salted water until tender, then drain and mash until smooth. Let cool slightly.
2. Mix mashed potatoes with egg, flour, salt, and pepper until combined.
3. In a skillet, sauté onion until translucent, add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
4. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart. Season with salt and pepper.
5. With damp hands, flatten a scoop of potato mixture into a disc, place meat filling in the center, and cover with another disc. Seal edges to form a patty.
6. Repeat with remaining mixture.
7. Heat oil in a pan and fry patties 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
8. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
Notes
These cakes can be made ahead and frozen after cooking.
For a vegetarian version, use sautéed mushrooms or lentils instead of ground beef.
Reheat in a skillet or air fryer to keep the crust crispy.
