Description

These Italian Butter Cookies are buttery, melt-in-your-mouth classics perfect for any occasion. Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

⅔ cup powdered sugar

2 large egg yolks

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 to 2 tablespoons milk

Optional: melted chocolate, sprinkles, or raspberry jam


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Cream the butter and powdered sugar using a hand or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.

3. Add in the egg yolks and vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.

4. Slowly add the flour and mix just until a dough forms. Avoid overmixing.

5. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk if the dough is too stiff for piping. Mix until smooth.

6. Fill a piping bag with a large star tip and pipe dough onto the lined baking sheet into circles or S-shapes.

7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges begin to turn golden.

8. Let cool completely on a wire rack.

9. Decorate by dipping in melted chocolate and adding sprinkles, or sandwich with a teaspoon of jam.

Notes

Use room-temperature butter for the best creamy texture.

Avoid overmixing the dough to keep cookies tender.
