A restaurant-style Italian lasagna recipe that’s perfect for Sunday dinners, potlucks, or make-ahead family meals. Discover how to make this classic baked pasta dish at home with simple ingredients and big flavor.

Ingredients

12 lasagna noodles

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 pound ground beef

1 pound Italian sausage

1 small yellow onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

15 ounces ricotta cheese

1 large egg

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Salt, to taste

Pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and sausage, cook until browned.

3. Stir in onion and garlic; cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

4. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and Italian seasoning. Simmer sauce for 25 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

5. In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, half of the Parmesan, fresh basil, and a pinch of salt. Mix until creamy.

6. Boil lasagna noodles according to package directions, then lay flat on parchment to prevent sticking.

7. Spread a small amount of sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.

8. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella. Repeat until all ingredients are used.

9. Top final layer with sauce, mozzarella, and remaining Parmesan.

10. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbly.

11. Let rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

This lasagna freezes well—assemble, cover, and freeze before baking.

For extra depth, add a splash of red wine to the sauce while simmering.

Use freshly grated cheese for better melt and flavor.
