Description

This Mouthwatering Molasses Pull Taffy recipe delivers a nostalgic homemade candy experience with the rich, deep flavor of molasses. Perfect for gifting or enjoying as a chewy treat, this traditional molasses taffy is fun to make and even more satisfying to eat.

Ingredients

1 cup molasses

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon white vinegar

2 tablespoons butter

0.25 cup water

1 pinch salt

Instructions

1. Butter a large baking sheet and clear space for pulling the taffy later. Butter your hands as well to prevent sticking.

2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine molasses, sugar, vinegar, butter, water, and salt.

3. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let it boil without stirring until it reaches 260°F (hard ball stage).

4. Remove from heat and immediately pour onto the prepared baking sheet.

5. Let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes until it can be handled safely.

6. With buttered hands, begin pulling the taffy—stretch and fold repeatedly for 10 to 15 minutes until it becomes glossy and lighter in color.

7. Shape into ropes, cut into bite-sized pieces with greased scissors, and wrap each piece in wax paper.

Notes

Use unsulfured molasses for best flavor.

Don’t skip the butter on your hands—it makes pulling much easier.

Wrapping in wax paper keeps each piece fresh and mess-free.
