Description

This Oat Dutch Oven Apple Crisp is a cozy fall dessert made with sweet apples, warm spices, and a buttery oat topping baked to golden perfection in a Dutch oven. Perfect for holidays, potlucks, or chilly nights, this easy apple crisp recipe is a classic comfort food treat the whole family will love.

Ingredients

6 medium apples

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 cup old-fashioned oats

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

1. Peel and slice the apples into thin wedges.

2. In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside to release juices.

3. In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon.

4. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until crumbly.

5. Grease a Dutch oven lightly with butter or nonstick spray.

6. Pour the apple mixture into the Dutch oven, spreading evenly.

7. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples without pressing down.

8. Bake at 350°F for 45–55 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

9. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

10. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Use a mix of apples like Honeycrisp and Granny Smith for best flavor and texture.

Don’t skip the lemon juice—it brightens the flavor and balances the sweetness.

If making ahead, store unbaked crisp in the fridge up to 24 hours and add 5 extra minutes to baking time.
