Ingredients
6 medium apples
3 cups granulated sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup water
1 teaspoon gel food coloring (various colors)
1 teaspoon vanilla or cinnamon extract (optional)
Instructions
1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Remove any wax coating and insert wooden sticks into the tops.
2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
3. Bring to a boil and stop stirring. Allow the mixture to reach 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
4. Remove from heat and quickly stir in food coloring and optional flavor extract.
5. Tilt the pan and dip each apple into the hot candy, rotating to coat fully. Let the excess drip off.
6. Place apples on a parchment-lined tray and allow to cool completely at room temperature.
7. Do not refrigerate. Serve the same day or store in a cool, dry place for up to 2 days.
Notes
Make sure apples are completely dry before dipping or the candy won’t stick.
Use gel food coloring for richer, more vibrant color without thinning the candy mixture.
Use a candy thermometer to ensure proper texture and crunch in the coating.
