Description
Soft Red Velvet Cookies are chewy, rich, and vibrant treats packed with cocoa flavor and hints of vanilla. This red velvet cookies recipe makes the perfect dessert for holidays or everyday indulgence. With a soft texture, optional white chocolate chunks, and bold color, they’re an irresistible twist on the classic cookie.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon red food coloring
3/4 cup white chocolate chips or chunks (optional)
Instructions
1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt.
2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy.
3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, then stir in red food coloring until the color is evenly mixed.
4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
5. Fold in white chocolate chips or chunks if using.
6. Cover and chill the dough for 30 to 60 minutes.
7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
8. Scoop dough into balls and space 2 inches apart on the sheet.
9. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are set but centers look slightly underdone.
10. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.
Notes
Chilling the dough helps prevent spreading and deepens flavor.
Don’t skip cornstarch—it’s key to a soft and tender texture.
Use gel red food coloring for vibrant color with less liquid.
