Description

Swirled Christmas Cookies are festive slice-and-bake holiday treats featuring vibrant red and green pinwheels, buttery vanilla flavor, and a sparkly sugar edge. Perfect for cookie trays, gifts, and holiday dessert boards.


Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

Red gel food coloring

Green gel food coloring

½ cup sanding sugar


Instructions

1. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

2. Add the egg and vanilla extract; mix until fully incorporated.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until dough forms.

5. Divide dough into two portions. Color one with red gel food coloring and the other with green.

6. Roll each portion into a rectangle between parchment paper. Stack the two and gently roll into a log.

7. Wrap in plastic and chill for 1–2 hours until firm.

8. Roll chilled dough log in sanding sugar and slice into ¼-inch thick cookies.

9. Bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes.

10. Cool slightly on baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Use gel food coloring to keep the dough from becoming too soft.

Chilling the dough is essential for clean, even slicing.
