Description

Easy Homemade Chocolate Syrup is a rich, smooth, and easy chocolate syrup recipe made with cocoa powder, sugar, water, vanilla, and salt. Perfect for chocolate milk, ice cream, pancakes, waffles, coffee drinks, and homemade desserts, this simple chocolate syrup comes together in minutes and keeps well in the fridge.

Ingredients

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup water

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until evenly combined.

2. Slowly pour in the water while whisking until the mixture is smooth.

3. Set the pan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, whisking often.

4. Let it simmer for 3 to 5 minutes until slightly thickened and glossy.

5. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

6. Let the syrup cool completely.

7. Pour into a clean jar or bottle and refrigerate until ready to use.

Notes

This syrup thickens more as it cools, so do not overcook it on the stove.

For a deeper flavor, add a small pinch of espresso powder with the cocoa.

If the syrup becomes too thick in the fridge, stir in a splash of warm water before serving.
