Description

One Hour Cinnamon Rolls are soft, fluffy, and filled with a rich cinnamon sugar swirl, making them the perfect quick homemade breakfast or brunch treat. This easy cinnamon rolls recipe comes together fast with a simple yeast dough, buttery filling, and sweet vanilla glaze for warm bakery-style rolls in just one hour.

Ingredients

3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup warm milk

2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 large egg

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 to 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the warm milk, granulated sugar, and instant yeast.

3. Add the egg, melted butter, salt, and 3 cups of flour, then mix until a soft dough forms.

4. Add the remaining flour a little at a time if needed, just until the dough is soft and workable.

5. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

6. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes in a warm place.

7. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon for the filling.

8. Roll the dough into a large rectangle, about 14×9 inches.

9. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly on top.

10. Roll the dough up tightly from the long side into a log.

11. Slice into 9 to 12 rolls and place them in the prepared baking dish.

12. Cover and let the rolls rise for 15 to 20 minutes until slightly puffy.

13. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, until lightly golden and cooked through.

14. While the rolls bake, whisk together the powdered sugar, cream cheese, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.

15. Spread or drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve.

Notes

Use warm milk, not hot milk, so the yeast activates properly without being damaged.

Do not add too much extra flour or the rolls can turn dense instead of soft and fluffy.

Glaze the rolls while they are still warm so the topping melts into every swirl.
