Description

Valentine’s Day Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars are soft, buttery sugar cookie bars topped with creamy pink frosting and festive sprinkles, making them the perfect Valentine’s Day dessert for parties, holiday trays, and easy homemade baking.

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1/2 tsp almond extract

2 cups powdered sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 to 3 tbsp milk

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

pink food coloring

Valentine’s sprinkles

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a large bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and almond extract.

5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until a soft dough forms.

6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.

7. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, until the top is set and the edges are lightly golden.

8. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before frosting.

9. To make the frosting, beat the butter until smooth, then add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of milk. Mix until fluffy, adding a little more milk if needed for spreading.

10. Tint the frosting with pink food coloring and spread it evenly over the cooled bars.

11. Top with Valentine’s sprinkles, then slice into 16 bars and serve.

Notes

Do not overbake the bars or they can lose their soft sugar cookie texture.

Let the bars cool completely before frosting so the frosting stays thick and smooth.

Chilling the frosted bars for 15 to 20 minutes makes them easier to slice neatly.
